Impact and Contributions

I interviewed 10 people from different age groups, income levels, cultural backgrounds, and capabilites in order to get a better idea of our demographics. I summarized my reasearch into key findings, user needs, and potential solutions and opportunities.

Must-haves

In Trainsquare, there are two types of users, the consumer who is looking to attend a workshop, and the host who is hosting the workshop. Accordingly, there were two teams working on this porject, each focusing on one type of user. I was the the UX Researcher of the consumer team. I created the research plan, counducted user interviews and researched consumer requirements, and created wireframes and low-fidelity designs. After the internship ended, I created the high-fidelity designs and interactive prototype for learning purposes.

The Solution

Can-be-done

Therefore, we hope to create a tool that helps users find reliable workshops that meets their needs easily.

We categorized each feature based on our assessment of its resource intensity, value to clients, and potential implementation difficulty.

We first looked into the market in the region to examine other means of finding opportunities for people to connect in-person.

To better understand our users pain points and needs, I conducted user interviews first before diving into solutions. We also held affinity mapping sessions with the developers and other designers, so that as a group, we can brainstorm solutions based on our findings.

Approach

To better guide our design and enable everyone on the team to empathize with our users, I further synthesized the interview results and came up with the following personas:

After presenting my findings, I met with the product manager and the developers to decide on which features we need to prioritize of this MVP and which we need to postpone. We broke down the features into four categories:

Competitive Analysis

Trainsqaure

We designed Trainsqaure, a platform that empowers our users by providing personalized workshop recommendations to them based on their interests and capabilites. It also provides users with a platform that showcases to them all the events/workshops near their loction so that they do not miss out on anything that interests them.

User Research, Secondary Research, Persona Creation, User Interviews & Prototyping October 2022 - January 2023

Users enjoyed checking hosts' credentials and reviews as it helped answer any doubts they had, but they struggled with information overload when looking through the workshop list. To address this issue, I simplified the design in the next iteration. Now, users can focus on essential details. If interested, they can click on a workshop to learn more. Below are some of the high-fidelity designs. For this iteration, my primary goal is to validate whether the design helps different types of users easily find workshop that meet their interests and requirments. I also hoped to test the usability of the design, so that I can improve upon it.

Challanges & lessons learnt

Trainsquare is a web platform startup for in-person, hands-on group workshops. This project aimed to pinpoint user pain points, innovate effective solutions, and strategically prioritize features for the initial MVP, while also outlining those for subsequent iterations.

After presenting the sketches to users and observing how they naviagted through the sketches, I created the following low fidelity prototype.

I then drew out sketches of some of the functionaloties.

The Problem

I started by creating the information architecutre. I believe that good IA is the foundation of any good design, and that form should follow function. Workflows are extensively tested and iterated on before any interface work can begin.

This marked my first UX project, which is why it was an extremely steep learning curve. I had to teach myself a lot of the fundamentals in a short period of time and implement them. It was an eye-opening experience that taught me a lot about being lean and knowing when and where to focus your energy and efforts. Some takeaways from this project:

Feature Prioritization

There are limited opportunities for people to connect with one another in local communities. While online communities are on the rise , there is a considerable lack of in-person social interactions. Studies have shown that this is a contributing factor to loneliness.

We found that:
